MCP Local

ivyx

Run MCP servers as local processes so their tools are callable everywhere you work

MCP Local

Adds local (command-line) MCP server support to the MCP Servers extension. Point it at a command — like an npx package — and it starts that MCP (Model Context Protocol) server on your machine and makes its tools available to your agents, workflows, and the MCP Explorer.

What you can do

  • Add a local server by its command, arguments, and environment variables.
  • Start it from a short form in the sidebar, or from the command palette.
  • Use the server's tools anywhere connected MCP tools are available.

Requirements

  • Desktop app only — local servers run as a program on your computer.
  • Works alongside the MCP Servers extension, where connected servers are listed and managed.
  • For remote HTTP servers instead, use MCP Remote.

Getting started

Run Connect Local MCP and point it at the command that starts your server.
